Surfing is and art form and a sport all rolled into one. In my opinion its all about having fun. That level of fun cannot be gauged by anyone but you. The exhilaration and adrenaline you feel when your out in the ocean riding waves is yours and yours alone. That being said there are ways to improve your technique which will give you a different outlook on how you approach your surfing and the confidence you will feel as a result will allow you to tap into a higher level of your own abilities. Its no different then the recreational golfer who works with a club pro on his swing to bring his handicap down so he can have more fun on the weekends. Pushing your own personal abilities to another level is exciting and fun. Improving your technique will allow you to attempt new turns or draw new lines on the wave that you may have never had the confidence to attempt witch can really improve the quality of your time in the water and help you reinvent your surfing by taking it to a whole new level. Just like with anything in life if you approach things the same way every time you can’t expect a different result. Most surfers approach their turns with the same flawed technique and therefore never seem to improve the completion ratio of that desired turn. Every surfer has a style of their own, the only thing is muscle imbalances and short stiff muscles and poor technique have a huge role in how you develop that style. This can really limit what you are able to do and how you approach your surfing. The good news is that you can correct these poor technique habits. The greatest thing about about surfing is that its always changing and evolving. Deepen your awareness of how you can get more enjoyment out of surfing and go have some fun!
Enjoy the ride!
